Volunteer
Listed below are just a few ways we can put volunteers to work.
Volunteer your time as a helper before, during, and/or after a Friends’ event.
Helpers are always needed at our Friends events, be they a fundraiser or a service activity. Your help could consist of baking cookies, selling raffle tickets, making phone calls, or registering attendees. We always appreciate volunteers and need their help as we solicit sponsors and donations from community organizations. The PZSC and the Friends of the PSC depend on volunteers, so please call the Senior Center at 329-4555 and sign up to help.
Your help is needed in serving on one of the Friends planning committees.
The Friends currently have several active committees, each meeting near the time an event is scheduled. Events like the golf outing/silent auction and purse sale require numerous volunteers. Board Members and volunteers work together to plan and staff such events. There is always a need for new ideas and fresh faces. Many times volunteers bring new contacts, vendors, and supporters to help us with our fundraising. Contact Kimberly Middleton, the PZSC Volunteer Coordinator, or one of the Friends Board members to get an overview of event committees and their responsibilities.
You can expand your community service by serving as a member of the Friends Board of Directors.
Friends board members serve a minimum of three years, attending monthly, hour-long board meetings at 8:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. Board members are asked to serve on event planning committees that meet two-to-three times prior to the event. Minutes and agendas are circulated via email prior to each meeting, enabling those who cannot attend the meeting to accept, approve, comment, or give input to the proceedings of the meeting. Call the Portage Zhang Senior Center regarding your interest in serving on the Friends Board. You will have the opportunity to attend one of our board meetings as a guest and be given an up-to-date copy of the Friends of the Portage Senior Center Board Member Packet.
You can support the Friends with a monetary donation.
A monetary donation to the Friends of the Portage Senior Center makes you a Friend. Even If you find that you cannot get personally involved with the activities and fundraisers of the Friends, why not make a donation? All contributions are welcomed. Friends who donate $100 annually will receive an invitation to a donor recognition event. Please visit the Gifts and Contributions section of this website to learn more about your options for making a monetary donation to the Friends of the Portage Senior Center.
